Life, by the Rudrasagar Lake

CHAPTER
LAKESIDE
A water palace on Tripura's quietest lake

THE HOUSE
Where the birds start gossiping before you've had your coffee, the dew takes its own sweet time off every leaf, and the hills lounge about on their ninth cloud, Tripura beckons, draped in emerald.
Nature apparently couldn't decide on one shape for Tipra (to those in the know), so it laid down bits of all: ranges, valleys, rivers, forests, and yeah, we're getting to that, a historic rampart too.
Its name: Neermahal, literally meaning 'water palace', an old Mughal-Rajput summer palace built for Manikya kings who clearly knew how to sulk in style.
And from your pillow at Chapter Lakeside, it's the first thing you'll see.

A DAY HERE
Simply, the Mood

06:30
TAKE YOUR SWEET TIME
Adrift on the boat, with the sky turning pink and the mist playing coy.
Up ahead, a handsome mix of cool marble and sandstone, Neermahal, striking your gaze with it, and the reflection below.
The bamboos sway with the wind, and you, with the boat. No ticket counter, just our in-house boatman cruising on a speed dial.
The next chapter opens quietly: you, still salty from the boat, and a table already laid at our all-day dining restaurant.
The same lake and soil that just handed you a sunrise, now handing you breakfast.
12:40
LONG LUNCH ON THE WATER
By noon, the pool's got the right idea: flat, slow, matching the lake's mood.
Just on the side, bites wait at the bar, hinting at whatever's local that week.
Al out lake resort near Neeramahal, our kitchen writes in Cha Borok (native cuisine, of course), bamboo, river fish, and local greens. Try all!
You've traded the boat for a lounger, the mist for the chill clinging to your glass.
Ask for 'The Rudrasagar', kagzi lime and wild florals playing along with gin or vodka. Or keep it simple; a juice does just fine too.

18:55
SUNDOWN
Unakoti's carvings or Chabimura's river cliffs down the Gomati; wherever the day took you, every road leads back to the same lake. It's persuasive like that.
By the time the gate finds you again, the sky's gone full sunset special: navy and orange, matching the interiors or arguing with them, hard to tell which.
The corridor picks up where you left off. A Spectacled Langur, still watching, still judging.
And a shelf of books, for whoever's run out of places to be.
The courtyard's right there too. Smaller than the lawn. Quieter than the pool. Keeping the last of the evening to itself.
23:30
LAKE, LANTERN, LOW MUSIC
The lake's turned mirror by now, holding onto every flicker. 'Tu tu hai wohi, dil ne jisse apna kaha', a tune drifts by, low enough to almost miss.
Is that the BGM? Yes, the duo behind it, S.D. and R.D. Burman, two legends from Tripura.
Both equally responsible for how Bollywood sounds now.
A toast for the influencers on the vinyl wall before Instagram came to light.
Back on the terrace, there's room enough for two chairs and one very good reason to use both.
And seventeen rooms mean seventeen kinds of silence; tonight, yours is the only one that matters.

EAT AND DRINK
THE KITCHEN, THE BAR, THE BREAKFAST

ALL DAY DINING
The kitchen cooks what's good today, and it's usually worth trusting. Tripuri staples done seriously. Smoked river fish. Bamboo shoots. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or whatever falls in between, it's ready.

THE POOLSIDE BAR
Lakeside service. Negronis. Local rice spirit if you ask twice. One drink, named for the lake. Try 'The Rudrasagar': Kagzi lime, wild florals, gin or vodka shake. Your choice.

THE KOKBOROK TABLE
A cuisine India barely wrote down. This is how Tripura eats, not a version dressed up for a menu. The Kokborok Table just happens to let you sit at that table too.
