A LETTER FROM THE HOUSE.

Two years ago, we opened our doors on a pine-covered ridge above Shillong with a simple ambition: to create a place we would want to return to ourselves.

Not a hotel built around grand gestures, but one built around the feeling of being here. Mornings that begin slowly. Long lunches that have nowhere else to be. Evenings by the fire. A swim when the afternoon calls for it. And enough space to simply do nothing.

We wanted the house to feel considered, but never overly polished. Comfortable, but never ordinary. A place where the landscape was as much a part of the experience as the rooms themselves.

Two years on, some decisions have aged beautifully. Others have taught us a thing or two.

WHAT WE GOT RIGHT

The pool.
It became the heart of the house—quiet in the morning, unhurried through the afternoon, and atmospheric as the light fades.

WHAT WE'D DO DIFFERENTLY

We'd build more places to linger. More cabanas. More shaded corners. A little more lawn. More spaces where a book can be left halfway through, a conversation can continue uninterrupted, and an afternoon can quietly disappear.

WHAT WE'RE STILL ARGUING ABOUT

Do we need one?

We understand the argument for it: a proper arrival, a place to pause, somewhere that announces you've arrived.But we're not entirely convinced that arrivals need announcing.
